Frugal Me Fridays

I decided to start giving a few tips on being frugal.
Over the years, I have really learned to stretch a dollar.

Food and frugality doesn't always involve the use of coupons.
That is really what most people seem to think of first.

Really, I don't use a lot of coupons.
It is hard for me to find them for either the brands or types of foods I buy.

One of the biggest money savers is cooking from scratch.
At first, it may seem like it costs more to buy all the individual ingredients.
But, you will have left over ingredients for other meals or baked goods.

If you work full-time, it can be hard.
It is still doable.

Use your crockpot.
Or
Do some of your prep work before work that morning or the night before. Refrigerate if needed.
Or
Set aside a day every few weeks and make meals ahead and stick them in the freezer. Thaw the night before and heat up when you get home.

Every Friday, I plan to give you tips on saving money.
It can be easier than you think.

Happy Friday!

  1. What a great idea, Ruth - I'm buying into it already. I have some greens that need washing and prepping (my least favourite thing) but truth is once their done I love reaching for them and using them in my cooking.

I am a scratch cooker by nature (meaning I don't need a recipe to actually cook) as such I am always looking for ideas - so bring them on!

I'll be staying tuned for your Friday updates. :) :)

    Cheers,

    1. I hope they can be of use. These days it is getting harder and harder to eat healthy without breaking the bank.

  2. Ruth, You and I are on the same sheet of music! When we were going debt-free, I was the QUEEN of frugality. I used coupons, stocked up on meats when stores had sales. I made ahead meals for the entire month and froze them flat in Ziploc gallon bags (in my tiny freezer). I grew my own veggies and froze them too. I was like superwoman.

Now, I shop for the week at Save-A-Lot and cook two big meals (plus extras to share with friends and family) that we eat off of all week. I try to spend $75-100 per week for my family of three and we still eat well!
